Scouting Quote of the Week:
"Times and challenges change, yet the values of Scouting will never change. Scouts of any era would recognize every word that you live by today, because those words have always defined Scouting. The goodness of a person and of the society he or she lives in often comes down to very simple things, and the words found in the Scout Law. Every society depends on trust and loyalty, on courtesy and kindness, on bravery and reverence. These are the values of Scouting, and these are the values of America." -- George W. Bush

Congratulations to Amir Khalaf for Earning the Rank of Eagle Scout!

Posted on Aug 23 2013 - 9:21am

Thursday, August 22, 2013 Amir Khalaf sat for his Eagle Scout Board of Review and became the 58th Eagle Scout in Troop 63's history.  Congratulations to Amir for reaching the pinacle of the Boy Scouting program! Amir's Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project was a safety improvement for people with disabilities at Shady Oaks Cerebral Palsy Summer Camp on South Parker Road.  It included the removal of a large dangerous dead tree, the complete resurfacing & new border installation for a short term parking lot, placement of a new parking sign and general repair of flowerbeds in the area of the lot.  All the best to Amir and his family!

Extra extra read all about it!

I hope you all were able to read the last couple of issues of the Homer Horizon and were able to see the nice writeups they did for both Zach Sowatzke and Roscoe Rea's Eagle project!

We returned today from a great (though somewhat wet) week at Camp Drake in Fairmount, IL.  Thanks to all who assisted in one way or another.  Thanks to Dave Mitchell and Dawn Hensen for coming out for the week.  Thanks to Tom Canning and Randy Mattingly for driving down on Sunday and to Pat Klein and Ed Cryer for driving back on Saturday.

The Six Knot Challenge

Posted on May 25 2013 - 10:44pm

Can you do the Six Knot Challenge?  As created by the International Guild of Knot Tyers (yes there really is such an organization) it simply seeks to see how long it takes to tie a Sheet Bend, a Square knot, a Bowline, a round turn with two half-hitches, the sheepshank and the clove hitch.

Troop 63 Code of Conduct

Posted on Jan 29 2013 - 4:29pm

Just a reminder that all Scouts need to turn in their Code of Conduct page 3 from the document that was passed out at the December Family Night.  If you need a copy of the form I have attached it here below and it can also be found permanently in the Files section of the Troop website in the Misc Forms and Documents section.  Please turn in this signed document to Scoutmaster Rea as soon as possible.  Thank you.
